Pre-Selection, Judging & Categories

Pre-selection Panel

  • Each year the Committee will appoint a Pre-Selection panel to review entries.
  • The Panel will initially review and assess all submissions received, and will decide if a work does not meet the Conditions of Entry. For example if your photograph was not of a high-enough resolution, lacked clarity/focus or the lighting was insufficient.
  • The Annual Exhibition Judge may or may not be part of the Pre-Selection Panel.
  • All decisions on acceptances are final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
  • Artists will be notified which of their works have been accepted to be exhibited prior to the opening of the Annual Exhibition.

Judging

  • The Committee appoints an Annual Exhibition Judge who is independant from the Pastel Society of Victoria, Australia Inc.
  • Judging takes place on the date specified in Important Dates

Painting Categories

Your entry must indicate which Category you are entering for each painting eg. A or C. Only allocate one category per painting for Categories A to F.

  • Category A: Landscape (includes Cityscapes)

  • Category B: Waterscape (paintings dominated by water in any setting eg. sea, river, lake, pool)

  • Category C: Portrait / Figurative

  • Category D: Still Life / Floral / Interior

  • Category E: Animal/Wildlife

  • Category F: Abstract/ Non-representational

You can also enter your painting into two categories, if you are entering into the PSVA Award or the Margaret Lourey Award. Enter your painting into one of the above Categories A-F, then please email us at info@vicpastel.com.au to advise that you also wish to enter that painting into either the PSVA Award or the Margaret Lourey Award. Unfortunately Gallery247 does not have the capability for one painting to be entered into 2 categories simultaneously.

  • PSVA Award - open to artists who have not previously won a major award at a PSVA exhibition - please send an email

  • Margaret Lourey Award - open to artists who have not won an award at any exhibition
